Help save our planet with blogs and feeds

Yes, I believe that blogs and feeds (rss or atom) can dramatically help save the earth by helping reduce climate change and global warming.

I believe that we should start reading blogs and use feed readers (e.g. Google Reader), because deforestation can be reduced when we start reading the news online. Trees are needed to make paper for the news and this is eliminated if we read on blogs or feeds. Newspapers end up not more than garbage at the end of the day, so I think it's more practical to read them digitally.

I know that tree cutting and pollution from papers is not the main culprit on what is happening to our planet. Removing some of the causes why earth is dying will not completely solve the problem, but that's better than doing nothing at all.

We can't say that the traditional way to get the news is evil. But, we already are in point that our planet needs serious help.

Blogs and feeds are basically free resources available via the internet and obviously these web initiatives don't cause pollution. All you need is an internet connection and a computer or any capable device for access.

To help save our planet, we need to harness every tools technology has offer for more radical results. We've got blogs and syndication ready to replace the old and not so friendly (to nature) ways of getting news and information and I think it's about time for us to make that change for the better.

Do you agree with this?

  1. Don't forget all the fossil fuels burned at power plants to supply the electricity to run all the computers in the world which comprise the internet.

That is, unless you've got a solar-powered laptop with wifi, or something.

  2. Thank you for your comment Seisrush. You're right about power plants, but not generally because some power plants are running on hydro or thermal sources. And, most of the computers and electronic devices nowadays are designed to save energy. There's also a significant decrease in energy consumption especially with monitors because of the advent of LCDs that requires very low power to be able to run. My cellular phone for example, with regular use, it can last for two weeks without being charged. Longer battery life, somehow, can be attributed to the improvement of the energy consumption of the LCD of devices which I believe – consume more energy than any parts of a device like a cellular phone.

There's really no perfect solution for a planetary make-over but I believe that every little things we do to minimize the damage we humans do to our planet, can make a difference.

I guess we really need to rethink what kind devices we should use and what source of energy we should use to run these devices.

Harnessing the power coming from the sun should be something that we extensively do (as you’ve said, “…unless you've got a solar powered...”). I guess, we should really have those kind of devices.

I hope this is one thing you’ll agree with.
